Bonspiel Engineering Ltd have just completed an extension adding 40% of factory floor space to it’s existing facility. Already the largest Star CNC user in the UK Bonspiel intend to develop a new fixed head section in the facility along with increasing it’s number of 32mm Star machines. The last two years have seen rapid expansion with over 1M invested on new plant and machinery.

MD Steve Bruce said:

"We have added both Automotive and Medical customers to our existing base of mainly Oil and Aerospace customers. Our common goals of continuous improvement, training, innovation and investment in the very best technology will enable us to face future demands with confidence".

Bonspiel Install 3 Star SR20R’s

Nov 2006

Bonspiel completed it’s largest single investment in November 2006, committing over £300,000 on 3 Star SR20R Mark II machines. This takes Bonspiel’s total spend on Star CNC Lathes in the last 13 months to circa £¾million, confirming Bonspiel as one of the largest Star users in the UK with 26 machines.

Managing Director Steve Bruce reported:

“High pressure coolant units installed on these machines have enabled us to be particularly competitive on high volume parts and these machines have been purchased specifically for this purpose. We are currently experiencing strong demand from all the business sectors we serve at the moment, both for UK and export markets. The medical device market is particularly busy and we are already looking at further increasing capacity in the first quarter of next year and increasing production facilities by around 33% in Q2 of 2007”.

Editors note: Established in 1989, Bonspiel Engineering Limited operate from a custom built 11,000 sq/ft manufacturing unit in Dundee. With 26 sliding-head CNC machines, the company has extensive capacity for machining sub-contract parts up to 32mm in diameter. Bonspiel has significant track record in a range of sectors including Oil & Gas, Medical, Communications, Defence and Aerospace. Bonspiel make it a triple whammy

May 2006

Bonspiel placed an order for it’s 3rd Star in 9 months increasing it’s tally of Star CNC Lathes to 23. The order - placed during Mach 2006 - for a Star SR20R, will complement the 2 recent SV32 purchases. This takes the total spend on new machines since October 2005 to £420,000, re-affirming Bonspiel’s commitment to existing and potential customers.

This machine is ideal for fast setting of complex parts and has again been purchased with a High Pressure Coolant System to allow high speed drilling.

MD Steve Bruce comments:

“Demand for High Spec machined parts is increasing. We have recently added our first export customer from Germany to the sales ledger and expect to double our sales to the USA in the next six months.”

Double purchase is a measure of Bonspiel ambition

January 2006

Following the successful implementation of Bonspiel Engineering’s first Star SV32 a second has just been installed taking the investment in these two machines in the last 6 months to £1/3rd of a million pounds.

Managing Director Steve Bruce says:

“The speed and flexibility of the first SV32 allowed us to confidently quote a complex rectangular part manufactured from a round bar which was previously made in 3 operations on a machining centre. We have 10 milling cutters in the turret and 3 in the platten meaning the only turning operation is the part off. We are now able to run the part continuously including lights out operation which was not previously possible. Although not required for this application we have again purchased the machine with a high pressure coolant system which enables us to drill very deep small diameter holes used for surgical instrumentation applications. This technology gives us a significant edge in a competitive theatre of business”.

Bonspiel Install Star SV32

October 2005

Bonspiel Engineering Ltd have installed the first Star SV32 Multi Axis CNC in Scotland adding to it’s already impressive range of 19 Star Sliding Head Machines. In addition to the power and flexibility the machine provides the adoption of the high pressure coolant system allows the drilling of small diameter deep holes.

Company Director Steve Bruce comments:

“The introduction of the SV32 gives us the ability to complete more complex parts from harder materials in one operation in very fast times but also with the flexibility of lights out production. Star carried out some trials on parts for the Medical and Oil & Gas industries for us and we were so convinced that this was the way forward we ordered the £160k machine straight away.”

Bonspiel operate from purpose built premises in Dundee supplying sub-contract machined parts to various sectors worldwide.
